For Led Zeppelin fans December 10, 2007 is a day we will never forget. Like most people I didn’t get to see the show but that didn’t mean I wasn’t there (in spirit). In the months leading up to the concert I visited the official Led Zeppelin web site at least a hundred times (trying to get tickets to the show). The tickets were made available through an online lottery. Millions of people entered but only 15,000 tickets were made available. I envy those lucky bastards.
It was 4pm Eastern time (9pm London time). I remember watching the clock, waiting for the show to begin… just thinking about the fact that the mighty Led Zeppelin was about to take the stage. A local radio station in Detroit, WCSX, was broadcasting live from the show and announced the opening song “Good Times, Bad Times”. I felt this wave of energy… figured the least I could do was crank up my stereo and play some Led Zeppelin.
Within hours there were dozens of Youtube videos posted from the O2 reunion show. I spent the whole night downloading the videos and creating my own bootleg. All in all I thought the concert sounded great. It started out a bit rough but in the end Led Zeppelin blew the roof off the place. Here’s the set list (in order)…
Good Times Bad Times
Ramble On
Black Dog
In My Time Of Dying
Your Life
Trampled Under Foot
Nobody’s Fault But Mine
No Quarter
Since I’ve Been Loving You
Dazed and Confused
Stairway to Heaven
The Song Remains the Same
Misty Mountain Hop
Kashmir
Whole Lotta Love
Rock and Roll
Unfortunately the O2 reunion was a one-off (tribute to Atlantic Records executive Ahmet Ertegun)… we all hoped that the momentum created by this awesome show would somehow lead to a full blown reunion tour… It never happened. No thanks to Robert Plant who didn’t want anything to do with a reunion tour. Who knows, maybe it will still happen.
No reunion! Leave the legacy untarnished!
That version of “The Song Remains the Same” is excellent. I would of gave my left one to see this show. Maybe London in 2012 at the Olympics?
